East Sunderland has a rich and far reaching heritage and culture. From Tunstall Hill Nature Reserve dating back 240 million years to North East’s largest theatre, the Sunderland Empire.
The Sunderland East area, like many other industrial areas, suffered with the decline of traditional industries such as shipbuilding, particularly as Sunderland was the largest ship builder in the world. In recent times, Sunderland East has seen a significant amount of regeneration, including the city centre.
Sunderland East has also seen significant progress made through the designation of an Enterprise Zone at Doxford. This has developed into the prestigious Doxford International Business Park employing over 8,000 people in world class, blue chip companies.
In Sunderland East, we’re focuses on these priorities:
- Chronic vascular disease
- Sexual Health
- Childhood immunisations
In 2013/14, practices within Sunderland East have been working together to deliver a number of different projects. The major project was the GP extended hours service in Sunderland, which saw ten GP practices seeing patients during extended hours, 6pm until 8pm, Monday to Friday and 9am until 5pm on a Saturday and Sunday.
We are also working with our key partners such as Sunderland City Council and the Carers Centre to build good working relationships and looking at opportunities as to where we can work more closely together.
