Sunderland CCG win the ERS Silver Ministry of Defence Award!
Tue 31st October 20170
NHS Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group has been awarded a Silver Ministry of Defence Employer’s recognition award, in respect of the great work practices have taken forward with ex-service personnel.
The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) was launched in 2014 by the Prime Minister to recognise employer support for the wider principles of the Armed Forces Covenant. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for employers that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to Defence and the Armed Forces community.
We are one of few NHS organisations to receive this prestigious award. Winning this award recognises the major contribution our organisation is making to the Defence People agenda.
All 47 practices within Sunderland CCG (SCCG) have been working with Sunderland Armed Forces Network (SAFN) and local third sector organisations to take a proactive approach to identify ex-service personnel, in order to ensure this vulnerable group is managed appropriately with priority access where relevant under the Armed Forces Covenant.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all practices for the hard work and support for fully and enthusiastically engaging with this initiative. This has been positively received by all organisations involved, and delivered measurable improvements for the patient group within a short space of time.
Sunderland Armed Forces Network have also reported an increase in the number of referrals from General Practice, and have a number of examples of where the scheme has made a real difference on an individual level.
