Designated a new town in 1964, Washington has expanded dramatically by the creation of new, small, “self-sufficient” villages.
Built on industry, Washington contains several industrial estates named after famous local engineers such as Parsons, Armstrong, Stephenson and Swan.
Over the last year Washington practices have been working together to take forward a number of different projects within the Washington area, some of which were funded through the locality innovation fund process. The locality team is also working with the Local Authority on building effective working relationships and opportunities to work together collaboratively.
