Staff at Dr Stephenson and Partners GP Practice in Washington, are celebrating after being nominated for a national award.
The practice is celebrating its nomination for The People’s Choice Award: Surgery of the Year, at the 10th Annual General Practice Awards.
New this year, the Surgery of the Year Award offers the general public the chance to give their thanks and show appreciation for their local healthcare team.
Dr. Geoff Stephenson said: “During my 40 years at the practice I have worked with some great colleagues. It is a real privilege however, to be a part of our current team who has taken patient care to even higher levels over recent years.
“This is reflected in the positive feedback not only from patients, but also from our partner organisations across the Sunderland health and social care community.
“The key to this success lies in the fact that the team has adopted a ‘Team of Leaders’ ethos with such enthusiasm and commitment, both collectively and as individuals.
“I feel honoured to be part of such a well-regarded practice, which is entirely due to efforts of all the individuals who make up our team. Come what may, they will always be my GP Team of the Year.”
Over the last 10 years the General Practice Awards have highlighted and showcased the best examples of hard work, innovation, and dedication taking place in primary care across the UK. Celebrating the very best projects, teams, and leaders and sharing in achievements, the awards are a chance to step back and reflect on the past year.
Clare Nesbit, director lead for primary care at NHS Sunderland CCG, said: “It is fantastic to see a practice in the city shortlisted for this award, and receiving recognition for the quality of care and the service they provide to their patients.
“Dr Stephenson and Partners has always been at the forefront of innovating to deliver high quality care with the best interests of the patients at heart, often proposing new initiatives and committing time to test out new ways of working.
“The motivation of the staff and the sense of teamwork is apparent and there is always a real passion and enthusiasm to improve the patient experience and outcomes.
“Despite the increasing challenges facing general practice, the positive attitude remains and all staff are committed to improving the care of their patients.”
Dr Stephenson and Partners is in the running, alongside 81 other surgeries across the UK, to be crowned surgery of the year.
